How it Works

Getting Started with Our Income Tax Courses is Easy…

  1. Select the course that meets your needs and register online or by phone at (800) 984-1040.
  2. You will receive an email with your login information within 1 business day of registration.
  3. You may begin your course as soon as you receive your login information.  Any hard copies will be mailed to you but there is no need to wait until they arrive – all materials are available online.
  4. Feel free to work at your own pace.  The courses have automatic grading and instructional feedback. Please note the time limit for your course listed under the enrollment terms.
  5. Instructors are available to answer course questions via e-mail. Response time is usually the same day of your question if it is during the work week but please allow 2 business days, maximum. Your instructor is not just an academic professor. All of our instructors have hands on experience working in the tax business and dealing with taxpayers and tax issues on a daily basis.
  6. A student forum is also available where students can post questions and view other students’ questions, and answers from our instructors.
  7. Students must finish the registered income tax courses and achieve an average of 70% or greater on all homework assignments, quizzes and exams in order to be awarded a Certificate of Completion through The Income Tax School. Certificates are sent by U.S. Mail.

After successfully completing the first two courses (Basic and Intermediate) course you will be qualified to prepare individual tax returns for the general taxpaying public. You can gain practical experience while completing the advanced and small business tax courses.

How long will it take to complete a tax course?
You are able to set your own pace. We recommend that you complete at least one lesson per week, which would require ten weeks for each 10-lesson course. However, you could complete two lessons per week while also working full-time and finish each course in just 5 weeks. If your other commitments are less, you could finish even sooner.

Continuing Professional Education Requirements
Certified Public Accountants (CPA), Certified Financial Planners (CFP ®), or Enrolled Agents (EA) may be awarded credit toward requirements for Continuing Professional Education (CPE) by successfully completing courses through The Income Tax School. Verification of CPE credit should be obtained before enrolling in a course since this varies from state to state.
