1. Q: How do I become a tax preparer in my state?

       A: Except for California, Oregon, Maryland, and New York, there are no additional/educational requirements set by the IRS in order to register as a tax preparer. You can register with the IRS at any time. Our Standard edition of the Comprehensive tax course will teach you how to prepare federal tax returns for the general public. 2. Q: How do I gain a tax credential, professional certificate, or become an EA?

       A: Completion of one of our certificate programs at The Income Tax School (ITS) will enhance your reputation as a trusted tax professional and give you a competitive advantage in your market. Plus, your increased knowledge will enable you to:

  • Prepare more complicated tax returns
  • Increase your revenue by charging higher fees for more complex tax returns
  • Acquire the knowledge necessary to prepare for the EA exam. The Chartered Tax Professional program covers all of the topics on the EA Exam and CTP® graduates are well prepared to pass the EA Exam after completing an EA Review.

3. Q: Do you offer financial aid or have payment plans?

       A: Since we are considered a “private career school”, we can not offer financial aid. Military service members/veterans can request assistance through a 3rd party partnership. More info on Military Tuition Assistance.

4. Q: I cannot access my course. 

       A: If you have recently purchased a course and are unsure how to login, check your email, including your spam/junk folders. There will be an email with the subject line “Course Product Keys”. You must enter that course product key at the link provided in order for our system to generate your username and password, which will arrive in a following email along with a link to the login page. 

If your course has expired, you can purchase an extension if your expiration is NOT more than 9 months ago. Up to 2 extensions permitted per course. 

5. Q: I have questions about the content in my course. 

       A: If you need help with specific material in your course, you have instructor support available to you via email. Instructors answer on a 1st come, 1st serve basis. Please allow 1-2 business days for a response. Please make sure to include your name, course, module, chapter , and lesson that you are referencing.
