CTC® Certificate Program Includes:

A series of three income tax courses totaling 120 hours must be completed within 12 months. Plus, there is a 200-hour experience requirement to receive the CTC designation.

  2. Advanced I Tax Course – 30 hours
  3. Small Business I Tax Course – 30 hours

After completing the first tax course, you’ll have enough tax knowledge to start working towards your 200-hour experience requirement. Plus, you can start earning money!

  • Chartered Tax Certificate students are held at a higher standard and must have an average grade of 80% or higher within the program to earn a Chartered Tax credential.
    • Certificate students must have an average grade of 80% or better within the program and fulfill the 200-hour experience requirement to achieve the designation.
    • A printed certificate suitable for framing will be mailed upon successful completion of all three courses, plus the experience requirement.

  • Annual CE Requirement for Chartered Tax Certificate Graduates

    • To maintain the CTC® designation, CTC® graduates must complete a total of 15 hours of CE annually upon completion of the program (9 hours federal tax law, 3 hours ethics, 3 hours federal tax law updates)
  • Approved by Internal Revenue Service (IRS) Office of Professional Responsibility (OPR)
    • We report your credit hours to the IRS
  • CTEC Approved
    • State material is available for California (Choose CA edition)
    • Upon successful completion of the course, we will notify CTEC of your completed credits

About the Comprehensive tax course:

  • Total of 20 chapters
    • 4 modules, 5 chapters per module
  • Total of 60 CE credit hours
  • 12 months from date of registration to complete the course.
    • Extensions can be purchased if more time is needed.

Upon successful completion of this course, you will be able to:

  • Prepare most individual tax returns
  • Perform a thorough interview with a taxpayer
  • Determine a taxpayer’s filing status and eligibility for exemptions
  • Accurately report income and deductions for a taxpayer
  • Determine a taxpayer’s eligibility for credits and deductions
  • Complete Schedules C-EZ, C and E
  • Compute depreciation for assets and eligibility for Section 179
  • Accurately calculate a taxpayer’s refund or balance due
  • Advise a taxpayer in tax planning strategies

Or, if you already have some tax knowledge under your belt from another source, you may test out of the Comprehensive Tax Course only, register for one of the programs and move on to the next course. What are the system requirements for the certificate program?

In order to take our online courses, you must have access to the Internet (high speed internet access is recommended). You can access the course contents from any web-enabled device. You do not have to use the same computer to log-in to the course every time. Adobe Reader is required to view the PDF versions for print of the online reading material.Back To Top

What materials are included with the certificate program?

Each of the courses is accompanied by a student text (350-500 pages). The entire text is provided online; however, hard copies of student texts are also provided at the start of each course for convenience and future reference. Students are also provided with hard copies of tax forms to complete tax return problems.Back To Top

How much time do I have to complete the certificate program?

The term for the Chartered Tax Professional Program is 18 months. The term for the Chartered Tax Consultant Program is 12 months. The term for the Chartered Tax Advisor Program is 9 months.Back To Top

Will I be taking the courses all at once or consecutively?

In order to provide you with the most up to date materials at the time you start your courses, you will be enrolled in one course at a time and complete them in consecutive order. Even though you have a total term for the program, we recommend to complete each course within the time frame that each course is termed. The terms of each course are listed below.

  • Comprehensive Tax Course – 6 months
  • Advanced I Tax Course – 3 months
  • Advanced II Tax Course – 3 months
  • Small Business I Tax Course – 3 months

Already Have Some Tax Knowledge?

If you already have some tax knowledge under your belt from another source, you may test out of the Comprehensive Tax Course only, register for one of the programs and move on to the next course. The cost to test out of the Comprehensive Tax Course is $100.   • If you are currently enrolled in or have completed an ITS course or certificate program and your term has not ended, your current fees may be credited toward a higher level certificate program. You only need to pay the difference of the two programs. There is no additional upgrade fee.
  • If you©ve already completed an ITS course or certificate program with us and your term has ended not more than 9 months ago, you may still upgrade by paying the difference of the two programs, plus a nominal re-enrollment fee of $25 to cover processing.
  • If you©ve already completed an ITS course or certificate program with us, and it is past 9 months but not more than 18 months since the end of your term, you may still upgrade by paying the difference of the two programs, plus a nominal re-enrollment fee of $50 to cover processing.
